Can't sleep

  • How am I feeling?: fine and dandy like sour candy
  • Word of the day: humpernickel
It's 3am, or just a little beyond and can't yet sleep so I have come here to blog hoping my laptop battey doesn't die on me.

It occurred to me earlier, this blog has just turned 5years old. Perhaps this is the longest running Bravenet blog still (sortof) active if you take into account Bravenet only started offering a blog service a full week before I got mine. It's obvious things have changed since then, beyond wild belief, from a small weedy lttle 12-going-on-13 year old still in the 2nd year of high school in Lodon where I grew up and still a catholic, to an 18year old that I am now with a husband and child of my own in Gibraltar. How things change!

I am considering bringing back my pen name. I have used the name "Mystika Quinn"or just "Mysti" for short since I was 11 and many people online still only know me by ths name. I use it sporadically these days but it's a name that's so tied in with my online personality it's still a part of me in some respect. Not only is it a pen name but I have also submitted artwork under the name, rather than my own name, giving me some sense of anonymity. I don't attempt to hide behond this pen name, it just seems safer that way.

Maybe there should be a Bravenet seal of longevity for those who have stuck at the same blog year in, year out.... I should hope so, I'd be a good winner for it! 5 long years worth of blogging is proof!

Anyway, I shall try and get some sleep but it was fun walking down memory lane in a way through my blog. And damn these sticky keyboard keys! My letter I is serously fucked up!

Insect plague and other malarky

Yes, it is 1:30am. Yes, I am busy feeding the baby. Yes, I have become petrified of small ants.
Lately we have become swarmed with ant armies living in small cracks in the wall so we are on red alert for the little buggers. It has become rather a nuisance and one i could we easily do without.

Hannah is doing great, she's grown so much. She has started teething have started giving her baby rice with her milk to sustain her for longer. Today she had her first day out in a normal buggy as the pram is now too small - she loved it. She was enthralled by all that was around her. It was gorgeous!

Myself and the husband are still hooked on World of warcraft these days, it just doesn't tire you. We've even started buying books and comics of Warcraft and the lore behind it. For those of you still unknowing of the story of Arthas Menethil and Lordaeron it is well worth looking into, it's a brilliant piece of lore and the book Arthas: Rise of the Lich King by Christie Golden is an excellent book on his life and story, and really gets in touch with the emotional aspect of Arthas's downfall. No longer would you see Arthas as just any old villain, you really feel in a way sorry for him as he makes the hardest decisions and watches friends and teachers betray and turn their backs on him as he descends into madness.... it's epic.

Anyway, enough about that, I should be off to bed soon when I get the girl to fall asleep (no easy job with a small child!) xxx

A momentous day for British Politics

Commons Speaker Michael Martin will resign over the MPs' expenses scandal this afternoon.

Michael Martin reads a statement to the House of Commons

Speaker Michael Martin was elected to the role in 2000

He will make an announcement at 2:30pm when he opens the Parliamentary session.

Mr Martin is still due to meet party leaders to discuss reform of MPs' expenses at 4:30pm.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said it was for the Speaker to tell the Commons what his intentions are.

"It is only fair to wait until he says that," he said. "It is not for the Prime Minister to tell the Speaker what to do.

"The Speaker will make his own statement and I will comment on what he has said after he has made his statement."

The Speaker has been under pressure over the issue since last year when he fought, in court, to keep MPs' expenses claims secret.

When the details were released by the Telegraph, he angered MPs by appearing more concerned with finding out how they were leaked than with their contents.

Yesterday Tory MP Douglas Carswell tabled a motion of no confidence in Mr Martin but the Speaker refused to allow MPs to ask questions about it.

He told the public and the Commons he was "profoundly sorry" for his role in the affair but said the motion could not be debated because it was not "substantive".

Extraordinary scenes followed as a series of MPs rose to demand he stand aside or submit to a vote of no confidence.

Sky's political correspondent Joey Jones said: "I think the likelihood is that friends of Michael Martin will have told him to think about the situation and to consider the events of yesterday, when he had no control of the House of Commons.

"He will have reflected on that overnight.

"I am sure that he will have taken counsel from his fellow MPs, perhaps particularly among the Scottish MPs, and decided that this was the time to go."

The Speaker's resignation, covered live with breaking analysis.

Mr Carswell told Sky News it gave him no pleasure to have played a part in bringing Mr
Martin down, but said the House of Commons needed a new Speaker to help guide it out of the current crisis.

The Harwich and Clacton MP said: "I have acted not as his enemy and least of all as an opposition MP. I have acted as somebody who cares passionately for the parliamentary system.

"I believe we have found ourselves in a moral ditch and we need reform and change to get out of that ditch and restore dignity to politics."

'No Confidence' motion

Text of Mr Carswell's motion of no confidence in the Speaker

Mr Martin was widely denounced for allowing police into the Palace of Westminster to search senior Tory Damian Green's office last year.

Several MPs broke convention by publicly suggesting he should stand down, on the grounds that he could no longer be relied on to protect their rights.

Mr Martin was forced to take the unusual step of making a statement to the House, saying the police had neither a search warrant nor his permission to raid Mr Green's office.

He laid the blame on Serjeant-at-Arms Jill Pay, who he said had "regrettably" granted permission without his explicit say-so.

12:33 AM

It's been quite a while

  • How am I feeling?: absolutely fab
  • What type of mooosic?: spanish music off the tv
  • Outside? dark night
It has been many a month since I have last posted any news about my existance, so apologies for those who think i popped out of life =)

So what's new? well I had my baby on March 22nd (mothers day) for a start. The pain of labour is something out of this world I must admit. It is a dreadful, horrible kind of pain, but the reward you get at the end of it eclipses everything. The feeling of having your newborn baby in your arms is immense, its mindblowing.
My labour was a fairly good one. I had a natural birth. When I got to the hospital I was already 4cms dilated and it was llucky because when i called and told them my waters hadnt broken (and wouldn't either, they had to be broken artificially) they were going to tell me it was only early labour and not going to happen! When i eventually got there I had a nice warm bath ran for me, where i stayed until the pushing really started. The bath was a lifesaver, and the perfect pain relief. To anyone having a baby I would recommend a warm bath, it's so soothing!
By the time I got to the pushing it was too late for drugs so I went completely drug-free. The whole definition of a natural birth right there! And it wasnt too bad. It lasted a grand total of 39minutes (at 10:39am), but if i hadnt have been completely knackered (i was awake two straight days before hand too much in pain to sleep) I am 100% sure it would have been even quicker. Then came the good bit - spending time with my daughter who i'd carried round for the last 41 weeks!
My parents were the first to come and visit us, about an hour later. My mum's phone had been on silent and my husband had sent her multiple messages throughout the early hours to keep them informed so they got them quite late but got there eventually =)
A steady influx of ppl came throughout the day but by the end i was already too exhausted for visitors!!

Well, that was 2 months ago now - my daughter has grown and shes healthy and happy and full of life and love! and i love her to pieces - me and my husband both do. shes a real blessing.

Man Utd won the league today. Chelsea can still nab second if they win their matches and livepool lose their's so heres hoping!!

Well, i'll be off now and i will stop and talk later on.

18th

My 18th birthday is today =) A joyous occasion indeed! I am an adult and the world is at my feet. Or something. In reality it's pretty much the same, except I could go drinking, vote and all that stuff. Only at the moment I can't drink as I am 9months pregnant with my daughter! There's the European elections coming up though so I shall be having my first ever elections!!

Guess who's birthday?
"Birthday or B'days is the name given to the date of the anniversary of a person's birth. People in many cultures celebrate this anniversary. It is traditionally marked by a birthday party or, in some particular cases, a rite of transition."

April

thats about right actually.

Your Birthdate: March 2

Image

You're so intuitive, it's like you have a sixth, seventh, and eighth sense.
You connect with others freely and easily - and you tend to have many best friends.
Warm and caring, it's hard for you to close your heart to anyone.
Affection is like air for you - you need to give and receive it to survive.

Your strength: Your universal compassion

Your weakness: Your unpredictable mood swings

Your power color: Mauve

Your power symbol: Butterfly

Your power month: February

What Does Your Birth Date Mean?

http://www.blogthings.com/whatdoesyourbirthdatemeanquiz/

This is pretty much all true... when it comes to people's emotions, most of the time I see right through them.

July

hello my lovely fans and readers.... i know theres at least a couple of ppl who come by....

it's july and very warm at that, about 30-32 degrees here every day.  unfortunately still havent got a tan yet! that's the Irish genes for you!

have been looking at Twitter, a site which seems to be blooming into something massive nowadays, but seems more like a gimmick then anything.

don't really get the massive appeal of hearing that something is saying "I'm going to bed" or, "i'm off to eat", which are very common Twitter one-line entries, but it must be working...it's getting hugely popular. and it's seen on most sites in some way or another.

Twitter is petty much instant messaging, short to-the-point messages or links, with a blog feel. but still, although everyone keeps talking about Twitter, I must have come in too late in the game to really "get it", so i'm sticking to my humble rarely-updated blog for the time being.

anyway, life here in gibraltar is excellent. have been here for about 3 months nearly and it's been great fun. Beaches, dolphin safari, aquapark, constant sunshine.... it's a constant holiday...

ayway, i'll be off now. i think there's a power cut at the moment... xx

August

Dear Lord change not Thy will in my life,
Or trial and sorrows to be;
Renew my faith and make me strong,
Change not Thy will, change me.

Though teardrops fall when trouble comes,
Like storms on a rolling sea;
Let Thy beacon guide my ship to port,
Change not the storm, change me.

When Thy Holy Word I don't understand
And Thy glory I cannot see;
Teach my eyes, give me sight and wisdom,
Change not Thy Word, change me.

If the fruit Thou hast given me to eat,
Taste bitter and sour, I plea;
Let not my will but Thine be done,
Change not the fruit, change me.

If sometime I murmur and grumble, dear Lord,
About the cross I carry for Thee;
Keep it firm on my shoulders, but hold my hand,
Change not the cross, change me.

If You change Thy ways to please me, dear Lord,
I would soon grow cold and turn from Thee;
That You may hear my prayers, dear Lord,
Change not Thy ways, change me.

There's a valley that I must cross,
Someday Thy face to see;
Lest I forget what power is Thine,
Change not the valley, change me.

someone is unkind....I will
not respond in a like manner.

2. TODAY I WILL ASK GOD TO BLESS MY "ENEMY":

unfairly, I will quietly
ask GOD to bless that individual. I understand the
"enemy" could be a family
member, neighbor, co-worker or stranger.

3. TODAY I WILL BE CAREFUL ABOUT WHAT I SAY:
I will carefully choose and guard my words being
certain that I do not
spread gossip.

4. TODAY I WILL GO THE EXTRA MILE:
I will find ways to help share the burden of another
person.

5. TODAY I WILL FORGIVE:
I will forgive any hurts or injuries that come my way.

6. TODAY I WILL DO SOMETHING NICE FOR SOMEONE, BUT I
WILL DO IT SECRETLY:
I will reach out anonymously and bless the life of
another.

7. TODAY I WILL TREAT OTHERS THE WAY I WISH TO BE
TREATED:
I will practice the golden rule- do unto others as I
would have them do unto
you-with everyone I encounter.

8. TODAY I WILL RAISE THE SPIRITS OF SOMEONE WHO IS
DISCOURAGED:
My smile, my words, my __expression of support, can
make the difference to
someone who is wrestling with life.

9. TODAY I WILL NURTURE MY BODY:
I will eat less; I will eat only healthy foods. I will
thank GOD for my
body.

10. TODAY I WILL GROW SPIRITUALLY:
I will spend a little more time in prayer today: I
will begin reading
something spiritual or inspirational today; I will
find a quiet place (at
some point during this day) and listen to GOD's

November

This is a special day for many people especially in places like Mexico or those of Mexican heritage, and something I don't understand. Itś Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead in English, connected with the Catholic holy days of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day .
They believe that their dead loved one comes to visit them on Novemeber 2nd.  So, they set out alters, and fill it with the favorite things of thier loved ones who have died.  This can be their favorite food, beer, and flowers.  It's probably a little weird seeing the alters and stuff, because this is something I absolutely do not believe in. I am not a Catholic firstly. Like Halloween the day before, this originates in Paganism. Indigenous observances date back thousands of years to an Aztec festival dedicated to a goddess called Mictecacihuatl (known in English as "The Lady of the Dead"). Over time this festival, like many others stemmed in Paganism have been incorporated into the Catholic Church.

December

I won Journal of the Week! how exciting!
To everyone who congratuated me, i will personally thank each of you but for now thankyou to all who left messages of contraluations on my tag board or on blog posts. Much appreciated! Its a real honour to be chosen for the JOTW award!

My husbands birthday was on Sunday, and we ordered out from our favourite Chinese place Kowloon (which incidentally is owned by my husbands boss!), which was great... ooh im hungry thinking about it! i need to get me some dinner!
my husbands brother completely forgot that it was his birthday on Sunday until he was reminded, so he gave my husband about 30gold worth of armour on World of Warcraft as a birthday gift, which my husband gratefully accepted as 30gold is an awful amount of money on the game!

Now birthdays are out of the way...oh no,yet more spending! Christmas is just around the corner! My parents are getting their presents in January when they come and visit, and they are giving us our presents then too so we have a while to get presents for them. I gotta start looking for presents for other people though, and i can feel my bank account emptying already....

Take Care and i will post soon i promise...
